Flat Lay Wedding Detail Photos

Your wedding day may feel like it went by in a flash and sometimes it's hard to remember all of the pieces you put together to make your wedding day special. One of my favorite ways to capture these details are with flat lay wedding detail photos. These photos can include all of those important thoughtful details that mean so much to you.

Flat lay photos are done during the "getting ready" portion of the day. Along with taking photos of the venue, before guests arrive, these detail photos are taken as soon as I arrive at the venue. Once we are done with these, I typically move onto "getting ready" portraits, then first look (if you choose to do so).

Would you like shots like these as part of your wedding photography experience?

These photos take a bit of planning and preparation on the part of the client. I recommend putting all of these items in one dedicated box (except flowers, of course).

If you'd like these photos captured at your wedding, here is a checklist of potential items you can put together to make these photos happen.

What to include in your flat lay photo box/bag:

  • Shoes that will be worn during the wedding ceremony
  • Veil
  • Tie
  • Rings
  • Ring boxes
  • Other jewelry
  • Cuff links
  • Vow books
  • Invitations, save-the-dates, envelopes, stamps, etc.
  • Escort cards
  • Flowers
  • Perfume and cologne bottles
  • Items that connect to the wedding theme (ex: seashells for a coastal wedding, ribbon or fabrics with wedding colors, cultural ceremony regalia/jewelry)
